Why Are We Talking About Big River Grocery So Early?

If you've been hearing about Big River Grocery, you may be wondering: When are the doors opening?

The answer is: we're still building the foundation.

Big retail projects often spend years working behind the scenes—studying the market, securing financing, choosing a location, developing plans, and putting the pieces together—before the public hears much about them.

Big River Grocery is taking a different approach.

We're inviting the community in early.

We don't want to make all the plans behind closed doors and simply announce a finished grocery store. We want the community to understand what we're building, ask questions, get involved, and help shape the future of the cooperative.

Right now, 28 community members are serving on the Big River Grocery Steering Committee and helping move the project forward.

This is the work most people don't see.

And you can be part of it, too.

Want to know who's doing the work? Read our next post: “Meet the Big River Grocery Steering Committee.”

Want to get more involved? We'll also share what it means to join the Steering Committee and what we expect from members.

Big River Grocery is being built with the community—not simply for the community.
